Synopsis
An inexperienced journalist struggles to complete an interview with the superstar painter Dalí, in Quentin Dupieux’s latest Russian Doll-shaped farce, dubbed a ‘real fake biopic’. Crafting a mockery of artistic self-obsession as much as a tongue-in-cheek homage to the surrealist superstar, Dupieux takes an appropriately absurdist approach. The painter is here portrayed by no less than five different actors, while layers of dream compound into a labyrinthine monument to ego and creativity, evoking the films of Dalí collaborator Buñuel as well as the maddening paintings of the master himself.
