Synopsis
Hanako (Matsuoka Mayu) is preparing for her feature debut in a pandemic-stricken Tokyo when she meets a kind-hearted man named Masao (Kubota Masataka). She is condescended to by her male assistant director, undermined by her female producer, but nevertheless finds a creative path forward to finish her project. It involves her helping her estranged father and two brothers confront their shared trauma surrounding their mother’s absence. What begins as the story of a young filmmaker at odds with a sexist industry expands into an ambitious, subtly experimental family saga directed by the prolific Ishii Yuya.
