Moving between fantasy and reality, Didar, an unrecognised, struggling Kazakh poet, contemplates a rebellious 19th-century poet who was brutally executed by the Sultan, while facing his own dilemma of whether to accept a lucrative writing job for publicity. Based on the story by German writer Hermann Hesse, Kazakh director Darezhan Omirbaev speaks sincerely about the difficulty of creating art amidst the cynicism of the modern world.
