"A sardonic take on equality between the East and the West in post-communist Europe, the middle panel of Kie?lowski’s triptych divides itself between Warsaw and Paris. Humiliated by his French wife who divorces him on the grounds of his impotence, the Polish hairdresser Karol Karol (Charlie in Polish, as a tribute to Chaplin) plans an elaborate revenge using funds he amasses swindling gangsters in newly capitalist Poland's black market. Three Colours: White reunites Kie?lowski with actors Zbigniew Zamachowski (The Decalogue: Ten) and Jerzy Stuhr (Camera Buff) for a black comedy that satirises globalisation even as it affirms his faith in love and spiritual redemption.
