"Guo Nien" is a celebration of the lunar new year in China. However, for a great artist, a more fitting description would be crossing over the flowing years.
Master Huang Yongyu (1924-2023), the most influential figure in the Chinese art world, accompanied by his daughter Huang Heini, had a conversation with Yonfan during the three days leading up to the Chinese New Year's Eve in the Year of the Dragon in 2012. They talked about things in life, starting from photos of his childhood days, the changes of the times, the inspiration for creation, the gratitude for friendship... and continued to the cycle of life and death. It was like a home movie only a little different from others.
After 12 years, these rare snippets have been edited into Crossing Years that tell us the life of a great Chinese artist.
