Synopsis
When we first meet Astrid, she is being interviewed by the police, who are attempting to ascertain why her teenage son Raphael attempted to murder his own father just hours earlier in their family home. As the action jumps back, director Lafosse (The Restless, 46th) slowly reveals an entangled web of secrets, scandals and hypocrisies that have enveloped the family for decades, but only now is being forced to the surface. Crime provokes terror, which in turn provokes silence. It is within this lingering, suffocating void, Lafosse suggests, that malignant guilt and shame festers.
