Synopsis
Returning to his documentarian roots, Schroeder (The Venerable W., 42nd) crafts an affectionate and humorous portrait of his long-time friend, the painter Ricardo Cavallo. As he goes about his daily routine, reframing the French coastline and Parisian streets in huge, vibrant, multi-panelled oil paintings, Cavallo speaks enthusiastically about the European masters who inspired him, and his hopes of kindling a similar passion in a new generation of burgeoning young artists. Simultaneously we glimpse Schroeder’s own artistic process, and how his expression feeds just as voraciously from his friend’s unerring passion.
