"Documentary filmmaker Victor Kossakovsky follows Gunda (45th) with a tectonic and experiential meditation on the ‘problem with concrete’. Structuring his film around Italian architect Michele de Luchi, Kossakovsky takes us from the ruins of Lebanon to those of Ancient Greece and from the wartime destruction in Ukraine to the recent geological destruction in Turkey to illustrate just how much of what we’ve built we stand to lose, and just how much of what we’ve built still stands tall. Where did we go wrong? Arising from this is a question for the future: how do we build better? In Competition, Berlinale.
