Synopsis
In Iran, absurdism has become the new normal. Inspired by their friends’ ridiculous experiences, Asgari and Khatami (Oblivion Verses, 42nd) co-direct a series of nine striking vignettes about everyday people from all walks of life navigating the institutional, cultural, and religious constraints imposed upon them. Through a locked-off camera, viewers are put in the discomfiting position of social authorities, from bureaucrats to corporate bosses and schoolteachers, faced with the anguish and distress of the young and elderly alike. Acerbic and affecting, it offers a piercing glimpse into totalitarian edicts and fundamentalism.
