Synopsis
Combining an unfiltered feminist perspective stemming from her own experiences, with the austere lyricism of Aleksandr Sokurov’s filmmaking, Kira Kovalenko’s sophomore feature is a powerful coming-of-age drama about a teenager struggling to break free from her domineering father. Encircled by men in her home nested in North Ossetia, Ada has to address the traumatic wounds engraved on her body and soul, and find her own way to escape patriarchal clutches. Un Certain Regard, Cannes.
